Hygienic Design
Hygienic design is a set of principles and standards that reduce the risk of food safety issues. The most important factor in hygienic design is that the equipment and the premises are easily cleanable.
Standards for hygienic applications have become stricter in recent years. Rechner Sensors now traces the contact materials used in each sensor from raw to the final sensor serial number. Our PEEK material is a food contact safe, FDA approved material (FDA 21 CFR 177.2415).
The surface roughness of sensors for hygienic applications are tested to ensure they meet food and pharmaceutical standards. A surface roughness smoother than 0.8 Ra is required for all hygienic designs, EHEDG Certification, and EHEDG Conformance.
Traceability
Rechner can provide a Food Grade Declaration of Comformity document if notified at the time of the order. This traces the source of the materials used in the sensor that are in contact with the process.

Mounting
The mounting connection is just as important as the sensor itself. Having a sensor made with food safe materials and smooth surface finish is pointless if the process connection has exposed threads.
Our mounting adapters seal the sensor against a beveled edge and leave no crevice for bacteria to collect and grow. The sensor creates an aseptic seal where the beveled edge of the sensor meets the metal edge of the mounting adapter.
The hexagon design on the back of our hygienic sensors makes them easy to install with the proper torque. When sealing the sensor with the mounting adapter, tighten to 22.1 ft-lb (30 Nm).
